trout lake park
John Hendry Park – known by locals as Trout Lake Park – is a beautiful 68-acre greenspace in the heart of Vancouver’s East Side.
With a lovely view to the North Shore mountains, the park is a favourite spot for recreation and relaxation that features a lovely running/walking path around the lake (fully wheelchair accessible), a kids playground, playing fields, a covered picnic area, a large off-leash dog area, beautiful tall trees, two small beaches and several lakeside sitting areas.
It's an urban oasis that’s perfect for walks, runs, picnics, play or quiet downtime – and makes for a wonderfully scenic route to the shops and restaurants of Commercial Drive.
The park also boasts the just-opened Trout Lake Community Centre, which comes with a fully-equipped fitness centre, arts and fitness classes, a skating rink and free tennis courts – all of which are open to the public.
And every Saturday from May until October, you can also take a stroll through the legendary Trout Lake Farmers Market, where you can pick up fresh fruit and vegetables, meats, cheeses, baked goods, prepared foods, plants and gifts from local growers and producers.
